We’re proud to be working with the David Oluwale Memorial

Association (DOMA) with funding from Community Fund, to offer

a powerful creative project for young people aged 13 to 21.

This is more than a music project — it’s a chance to explore real-life issues that continue to affect communities today. Through weekly workshops, we’ll dive into the life and legacy of David Oluwale, using themes like migration, mental health, homelessness and racism as a starting point for creativity and conversation.

You’ll learn about the vibrant sounds of Leeds during David’s lifetime — from jazz and blues to soul — and combine them with the music that speaks to your generation, like drill, afrobeats, hip-hop, pop, and reggae. Together, we’ll experiment, collaborate and create music that reflects your truth and the world around you.

As well as making music, you’ll have the opportunity to explore other artforms and traditions — like African fabric and batik making — and connect with the cultural richness of Leeds today. It’s a space to meet new people, share stories, and create something meaningful as a group and as individuals.

The project will culminate in a live performance at Leeds Playhouse on 19 July 2025.

No experience is needed — just bring your energy, ideas and your voice.

Join us at Music House and make music that matters.
